---------------------------------- Selecting a Division The format of the races was changed last year.
This new format will be used again in 2008. Boats will be divided into two divisions--Flying
Cloud and Lightning. Within
each division there will be classes based on similarity of
ratings. On the registration form skippers should select the division in
which they wish to compete. The two divisions are as follows. FLYING CLOUD DIVISION -- This is the sort of
competition most of you have been enjoying all these years. Let’s all race
and have fun and have a good time on the water and ashore. We ask that you
provide information on your boat including any current or previous rating.
If you don’t have a rating we assign one based on the information you supply
concerning the boat’s characteristics such as type of keel, etc. The overall winner of this division will have his
or her boat’s name engraved on the big Hospice Cup and will get a keeper
trophy from AGA Correa as in the past. LIGHTNING DIVISION – This is for the "serious"
racers. Their boats may be stripped down with only required equipment or
have a wet sanded bottom or other things that these sailors enjoy. They will
also be divided into classes based on ratings. To enter this Division a
sailor must provide a copy of the boat’s 2008 Chesapeake Bay PHRF rating.
The overall winner of this division will also have
his or her boat name engraved on the big Hospice Cup and will get a keeper
trophy from AGA Correa. In addition, this division winner will be asked to
be our
representative to the National Hospice Regatta in Annapolis. The requirement that the boat’s design is 25 years
old or older applies to both divisions. If you do not select a division, we will place you
in the FLYING CLOUD DIVISION. We can change your selection up until 6:00 P.
M. Wednesday October 7, but it will help us if give the matter some thought
and get it right on your application. If you have any questions, please
contact us at(804) 438 5317. Elgibility The Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta is open to monohull sailboats boats of a design that is 25 years old or older. The minimum length is 18 feet. Singlehanders require approval by the race committee.
